24-Year Old Motorcyclist Killed in a Pacoima Crash
Los Angeles police officers are still seeking clues to a fatal hit-and-run that killed 24-year old John Waters in Pacoima Saturday evening, Sept. 17th. The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. when authorities responded to reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a truck near the intersection of Norris Avenue and Osborne Street in Pacoima. Los Angeles police believe the suspect was behind the wheel of a 1999 GMC pickup truck that was possibly black or dark blue in color. According to witnesses and investigators, Waters was heading eastbound on Osborne Avenue when the suspect pulled out and turned left in front of the motorcyclist cutting in front of him. Waters was thrown from his motorcycle. The suspect then fled the scene leaving Waters and his wrecked motorcycle in the middle of the street. The suspect is described as a man in his 30s with tattoos on his neck and body. The 1999 MGC truck is believed to have significant damage to the driver’s side.
Victim Honored by Family and Friends
Waters was transported by ambulance to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. Family and friends gathered to honor Waters with a tribute on 2-wheels left in the spot where the 24-year old was killed. Friends and family said anything to do with cars or engines was Waters’ passion. He worked at Hammer Toyota just to be around cars. Waters was on his way home from work when he lost his life. “It’s a lot. We don’t know if the person will be found,” said Waters’ friend Natalie Wallis. “For me it’s hard because he inspires me. Never met anyone sweeter for someone so sweet to come to a violent death, it’s not fair. He made you feel like you were the only person.” Others described Waters as a kind person with a big heart who was known for making everyone feel special. Family and friends are urging for the suspect to do the right thing and turn himself in. Anyone with more information is urged to call the Los Angeles Police Department.
