Vehicle Hits CHP Motorcycle Officer in Escondido on I-15 Freeway
ESCONDIDO, CA (January 24, 2019) – A vehicle hit a California Highway Patrol officer who was about to help a stranded driver on I-15 in Escondido. The January 23 accident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, close to the Via Rancho Parkway on-ramp.
Reports say the that motorcycle officer was about to helped a vehicle that was stalled on the freeway’s right shoulder. The officer lit the emergency lights on the motorcycle, and was heading to the stalled vehicle when another vehicle hit him.
The vehicle that hit the officer was described as a Cadillac STS. The driver of the Cadillac was identified only as a man who is a resident of Poway. The man’s name and age have not yet been reported.
Respondents from the Escondido Fire Department and the Escondido Police arrived on scene and helped the injured officer. The officer’s injuries were described as minor, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Respondents took the injured officer to Pomerado Hospital. His current condition has not been reported. The officer’s identity has also not been reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol, drugs or alcohol were not thought to have played a role in the accident. The person who was driving the vehicle that hit the officer was not arrested. Reports say the driver did not suffer injuries.
Investigators are examining the details and information regarding the crash.
