Two-vehicle Collision on Del Dios Road in Escondido Kills Man; Woman Critically Injured
ESCONDIDO, CA (November 29, 2019) – A crash involving two vehicles in the afternoon on Thursday in Escondido killed a man and seriously injured a woman. The November 28 incident occurred on Del Dios Road near Mount Israel Road.
The time was roughly a little before 2:05 p.m., according to Kevin Smale. Smale is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Toyota Tundra pickup truck—had been traveling east on Del Dios Road at a fast speed. The vehicle went out of the driver’s control on the rain-slicked road in an area where the road curves.
The pickup spun out and traveled into the lane of opposing traffic. The pickup collided with another vehicle, described as a Subaru.
The person who had been driving the pickup had not been using a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He died at the incident site. He was identified as a man 47 years old who was a resident of Escondido. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Subaru suffered injuries that were described as serious. Responders transported her to Palomar Medical Center. She was identified as 27 years old and a resident of Encinitas. Her name has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to understand the circumstances of the crash.
