Driver Suspected of Stealing Vehicle is Pursued by Police; Crashes into House in Escondido
ESCONDIDO, CA (September 11, 2018) – A driver who police suspect stole a pickup truck in Escondido led officers on a chase before crashing into a house. The Monday incident began roughly at 2:00 a.m.
A police officer saw the vehicle—described as a Toyota Tundra—close to where East El Norte Parkway and North Ash Street intersect. According to Sergeant Ryan Banks, police had received a report that the vehicle was stolen.
When an officer on patrol tried to pull over the pickup, the person driving fled. Police chased the vehicle and after roughly ten minutes, the driver of the pickup crashed into an Escondido house, located on Veronica Place close to East Washington Avenue.
Sergeant Banks said that two people who were in the pickup—a man who had been driving and a woman who had been a passenger—were not injured in the accident. Both of the people in the pickup were identified as being 18 years old.
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of vehicle theft and felong evading. Police detained the passenger, but they later released the woman.
