Driver and CHP Motorcycle Officer Collide in Escondido, Seriously Injuring Officer
ESCONDIDO, CA (April 7, 2021) – On Tuesday in Escondido, a driver and a motorcycle officer with the California Highway Patrol collided, seriously injuring the officer. The April 6 incident occurred close to the Westfield North County shopping center, at Via Rancho Parkway.
The time was roughly 12:45 p.m., according to Salvador Castro. Castro is a public-affairs officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say the motorcycle officer had been traveling on Via Rancho Parkway and heading east. A vehicle–described as a Nissan Rogue SUV–is alleged to have gone into the officer’s path from Lomas Serenas Drive.
The Nissan and the motorcycle collided, and the officer was thrown. Responders transported the officer to Palomar Medical Center located in Escondido.
The officer was reported to have suffered injuries that were described as severe. The identity of the injured man has not been reported.
The driver of the Nissan has not been identified in reports.
Investigators are in the process of collecting information about the incident.
