Collision Involving Two Vehicles and Motorcycle in Escondido Seriously Injures Rider
ESCONDIDO, CA (October 17, 2019) – Late Wednesday afternoon, a collision in Escondido involving two vehicles and a motorcycle seriously injured the rider. The October 16 incident occurred close to where North Escondido Boulevard and West Washington Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 4:40 p.m., according to Frank Huston. Huston is an officer with Escondido Police.
Reports say the rider had been traveling on West Washington Avenue and heading east when he tried to pass another vehicle—described as a Volkswagen Jetta. According to reports, as the rider was passing to the left of the Volkswagen, the Volkgswagen began to move to the left into a turn lane.
The motorcyclist struck the Volkswagen’s mirror on the driver’s side and the front end. The rider then struck the rear of another vehicle—described as a Ford pickup truck—which had been stopped and waiting in the turn lane.
The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle. He fell onto the ground roughly 15 feet from where the pickup truck was located.
Responders transported the rider to Palomar Medical Center. According to reports, he suffered injuries that were described as serious. His condition is critical. He was identified only as a resident of Escondido. His name and age have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Volkswagen was identified only as a woman. Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported. It is not known if she was hurt.
The person who had been the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene. Reports describe the driver as a man who is Hispanic and has a mustache. His age was estimated as between 35 to 40 years. He had a basball hat on, and was wearing a T-shirt, gray in color.
Reports say a woman and a young child were occupants of the pickup truck. The pickup was described as a Ford F-250, white in color, and roughly from 2000 to 2006.
