Roberta Walker, Bike and Pedestrian Safety Advocate, Hit and Injured by Vehicle in Encinitas
ENCINITAS, CA (December 11, 2018) – Roberta Walker, who is an advocate for bike and pedestrian safety, was struck by a vehicle as she was cycling early in the morning on Saturday in Encinitas. Walker suffered serious injuries.
The accident occurred on North Coast Highway 101, close to Phoebe Street, according to Dave Perkins. Perkins is a lieutenant with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
The time was roughly 6:00 a.m.
Walker, who was identified as a community leader, heads the Cardiff 101 Main Street Association. She is the association’s executive director. Reports also say she is an advocate for the rights of cyclists and pedestrians.
Respondents transported Walker to a hospital. She suffered brain and spine injuries, and bones that were broken. Reports say her condition was critical.
According to Perkins, drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
The type of truck that hit Walker has not yet been described, nor what led to the accident. It has also not yet been reported who the driver was, the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence.
Investigators are examining the details and information to find out what caused the accident.
