Man in Wheelchair Seriously Injured in El Cajon by Hit-and-run Driver
EL CAJON, CA (September 21, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver struck and seriously injured a man in a wheelchair who had been crossing the road in El Cajon. According to police, the Thursday night accident occurred on East Main Street close to North First Street.
The time was roughly 9:25 p.m.
Steve Kirk said that the vehicle, which investigators think was a silver Nissan Altima, did not stop after it hit the man. Kirk is a lieutenant with the El Cajon police.
Officers found the victim lying in the road, close to the wheelchair. Kirk said the man was not conscious. He was taken to a hospital in the area with injuries that were described as life threatening.
From witnesses and other evidence, investigators discovered that the man in the wheelchair had been crossing the road on East Main Street, not inside a crosswalk, at the time the Nissan hit him. The driver of the Nissan fled after the accident.
