Man Injured by Hit-and-run Driver on Highway 99 in Delano
DELANO, CA (June 5, 2019) – Jose Rosas was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver in Delano late Tuesday afternoon. The June 4 incident occurred on Highway 99.
The time was roughly 5:50 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Ford Focus—had been traveling north on Highway 99. In an area near Cecil Avenue and to the south of it, the Ford went out of the driver’s control. The Ford crossed over two lanes and crashed into a Chevy Silverado.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the force of the collision sent the Chevy to strike a sign near the freeway, veer off the pavement, go down an embankment and smash into a tree. The Ford went off the road surface also, but did not hit anything else after striking the Chevy.
The person who had been driving the Ford ran away from the accident site reports say. Rosas, who had been driving the Chevy, remained at the accident scene. Respondents transported him to Kern Medical Center. The injuries he suffered were described as moderate to major. Rosas’ current condition is not known.
Investigators are continuing their search into the details of the incident. It is not known from reports if the person who had been driving the Ford has been located.
