Depending on the area an individual lives in, crime rates can vary. In fairly recent reports, the city of Irvine, located in Orange County, was named the safest city in the United States for the eighth year in a row. A resident living in Irvine may experience less circumstances involving criminal behavior as compared to someone living in Los Angeles. Los Angeles County recently had a significant increase of crime. For those living in a more crime-prone area, it will be smart to research the amount of criminal activities that occur, avoiding and decreasing the chances of personal injury or attack.

According to the LA Time’s crime reports database, crime rates are up in the Los Angeles county area. Twelve L.A. neighborhoods reported an increase in crime in the week of June 2 – June 8. Six of the neighborhoods saw an increase in violent crime and six other neighborhoods had an increase in property crimes.

Crimes reported in the LA area included aggravated assault, theft, robbery, grand theft auto, and a few others. The LA Time’s crime reports database covers about 200 neighborhoods around the L.A. area. The database keeps track of both short-term and long-term statistics on different L.A. neighborhoods.

The neighborhood of Lake Balboa, which normally has an average of 0.8 violent crimes a week reported, saw four instances of violent crime in the June 2 – June 8 week. Downtown L.A. had the highest number of reports in one week, totaling 31 violent crimes. However, downtown has an average of 21.5 violent crimes reported a week.

In the week of June 2 – June 8, Lake Balboa had four violent crimes and seven property crimes. That averages to about 4.2 crimes for every 10,000 people. In the downtown area, there were 31 violent crimes and 71 property crimes reported. That averages to 4.9 crimes for every 10,000 people. Most of the crimes in downtown LA involved theft.

For property crimes, the Pacific Palisades neighborhood had 14 instances reported when it normally has an average of 5.8 per week. Central-Alameda had 33 property crimes, up from its weekly average of 16.8.

The type of neighborhood an individual lives in can greatly determine the kinds of crime he or she will experience. Take into account the city of Irvine; as the safest city in the U.S., the chances of an Irvine resident being robbed or assaulted is very slim in comparison to a resident living in L.A. But whichever city a person resides in, chances of accidents, personal injury, and crime will never go away. It is important to know that there are Los Angeles personal injury attorneys who can help individuals deal with the aftermath of a home break-in or with any personal injuries received from assault.
