A car crash at the intersection of Iris and Fourth avenues in Corona del Mar this morning sent one of the cars into a vacant home. The 10:30 a.m. crash on April 5, 2012 occurred when a white Honda Element and Mercedes collided, Corona del Mar Today reports.

A next door neighbor heard a screech and a boom, and came out to find a car in the bedroom of the house. She said the house appeared vacant, the news story says. The home’s owner is deceased, according to emergency workers, and the house is in probate.

Kathy Lowe, a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department said the two cars collided in the intersection, and then the Mercedes traveled over a low wall, down a slope covered with shrubs, and into the back bedroom of the house at 700 Iris Avenue.

No injuries were reported from the crash, and police said alcohol did not appear to play a role, Corona del Mar Today reports. No citations were issued, Lowe said, and authorities are investigating the crash.

The next door neighbor said in the news story that another neighbor told her the driver of the Mercedes climbed out of the car like nothing happened. Lowe, the police department spokeswoman, said the Mercedes driver rested in the back of a police car. The driver said she was okay, the news story reports.

Inspectors for the city arrived at the scene to examine the house for structural damage. Jennifer Schulz, a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Fire Department, said the home sustained about $10,000 worth of damage.
