Woman Identified as Third Victim Killed in Charter Bus Crash in Pala Mesa

PALA MESA, CA (February 26, 2020) –  Cinthya Karely Rodriguez Banda was identified by authorities as the third woman who died in the charter bus crash in Pala Mesa. The February 22 incident occurred on I-15 southbound, close to State Route 76.

The time was roughly 10:25 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports say the bus slid off the rain-slicked roadway and went down an embankment. Twenty-one passengers had been aboard the bus, which was heading to Tijuana from El Monte.

According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner, Banda was killed when she was thrown from the bus when it crashed. She was 23 years old, and a resident of Mexico.

Two other victims who died were identified earlier. Julia Perez Cornejo was a resident of Pasadena, 71 years old. Maria De La Luz Diaz was a resident of Riverside, 67 years old. The were pronounced deceased at the incident site, according to the San Diego County Medical Exmainer’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.

Reports say 11 passengers suffered injuries that were described as major. One of the victims—identified as a boy 5 years old—was taken by airlift to Riverside County Hospital. The boy’s condition was described as stable, and authorities expect that he will recover.

The other passengers have not been identified in reports.
