Man Killed While Off-duty in Collision Involving Suspected DUI Driver in Chino
CHINO, CA (February 18, 2019) – Nicholas O’Loughlin, a deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, was killed while off-duty early in the morning on Sunday in a collision in Chino. The February 17 accident occurred where Edison Avenue and Euclid Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 12:30 a.m.
Reports say the collision involved two vehicles, and that the vehicle O’Loughlin was traveling in had been hit by a driver suspected of DUI. According to the Chino Police Department, O’Loughlin had been heading southbound on Euclid. A vehicle, which had been heading westbound on Edison Avenue, hit O’Loughlin’s vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Yijie Mao, 26 years old and a resident of Alhambra.
According to Chino Police, O’Loughlin was pronounced deceased at the accident scene. He was 28 years old.
Police arrested Mao on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Reports say alcohol and marijuana were believed to have been involved.
