Man Identified as Person Who Died in Castaic I-5 Collision
CASTAIC, CA (August 22, 2019) – Sergio Martiez was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as the person who died in a collision last Wednesday on I-5 in Castaic. The August 14 incident occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, near Hasley Canyon Road and to the north of it.
Reports say Martinez had been driving a vehicle, described as a pickup truck. For reasons that are not known, the pickup truck smashed into the rear end of a big rig.
According to Josh Greengard, who is an officer with the California Highway Patrol, the pickup had become stuck under the big rig and caught on fire.
Martinez was the sole occupant of the pickup truck. He died at the accident site. Martiez was a resident of Grand Junction, Colorado, and 35 years old.
Investigators are continuing their work to understand the circumstances of the incident. They are gathering information and details regarding the crash.
