Man Struck and Killed by Big Rig on I-5 Near Castaic
CASTAIC, CA (June 3, 2019) – Erwin Mendoza Geremillo was struck and killed by a big rig Friday night on I-5 close to Castaic. The May 31 incident occurred on the freeway’s southbound side, near Templin Highway and roughly north of it by 3 miles.
The time was approximately 8:15 p.m., according to Patrick Kimball. Kimball is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say Geremillo, who was a tow truck operator, had been changing a tire on a vehicle that was disabled. A big rig, with two trailers loaded with rocks, struck Geremillo, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Respondents pronounced Geremillo deceased at the accident site. Geremillo was 47 years old and a resident of Castaic.
The big rig was described by the California Highway Patrol as bearing Arizona license plates, and perhaps black and white, or black and red in color. Investigators are continuing to examine the information and to search for the driver of the big rig. No other details are available at this time.
