Driver Smashes into Shopping Center in Carson
CARSON, CA (October 10, 2019) – In the afternoon on Wednesday, a driver smashed into a shopping center in Carson. The October 9 incident occurred at a strip mall located on the corner of the 234th Street and Main Street intersection.
The time was roughly 12:15 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Reports say the car—described as a Honda Civic—entered the parking lot and accelerated. The speed sent the car into the building, according to Armando Hernandez, who is a sergeant with the Sheriff’s Department.
The Honda crashed into the building, through the glass front where a tae kwon do business is located. According to Hernandez, the car may have struck a post in front of the building, which caused one side of the vehicle to lift. The car landed upside down, on its roof.
Responders arrived and worked to free the driver from the wreckage. They took to her a hospital. According to reports, the woman suffered injuries, but they were not described as life threatening.
The identity of the driver, including her name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported. Her current condition is not known.
It is not known if anyone had been inside the building when the car struck, and if anyone inside was hurt.
Investigators are looking into the details and information to find out why the accident happened. According to reports, the building’s structural soundness did not appear to be compromised. Other businesses in the strip mall include a laundromat and a liquor store.
