Car Plows Into Crowd in Mid-City Injuring at Least Nine; Driver Arrested

9 Nine People Injured in Mid-City Crash
July 30, 2017 – A crowd of people near a restaurant in Mid-City Sunday afternoon were plowed into by a car when it careened off the road. Authorities said at least nine people were injured in the accident and the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
At about 3:47 p.m., the incident took place on the 5000 block of West Pico Boulevard. There were at least nine people injured in the incident, eight of them being taken to a hospital.
Within the crowd was an off-duty Los Angeles firefighter who was fortunately able to avoid injury.
Of the nine injured, a 44-year-old man was listed in critical condition, while a 18-year-old woman, 28-year-old woman, and 30-year-old man were all in serious condition. In addition, two 51-year-old men, a 39-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were all listed in fair condition, authorities said.
Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Hit-and-Run
Witnesses were able to catch the driver before he could flee and held him until police arrived on the scene. Authorities said the accident began when the driver ran a red light and clipped another car at Pico and Redondo boulevards.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Authorities said the driver did not appear to be under the influence of a substance or alcohol and that the accident had zero connection to terrorism.
The investigation was ongoing.
