Vehicle Hits Child Walking on Sidewalk in Canyon Country Near Elementary School
CANYON COUNTRY, CA (February 5, 2019) – A child who was walking on the sidewalk near an elementary school in Canyon Country was struck and injured by a vehicle Monday afternoon. The February 4 accident occurred where Via Princessa and Golden Valley Road intersect, outside of the Golden Oak Community School.
The time was roughly 3:00 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Reports say that the child had been walking with other children close to the elementary school when the vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and hit the child. The vehicle—described as a Toyota sedan, dark in color—also struck a traffic pole.
The child—whose name, age, gender, and city of residence has not been reported—was taken by airlift to the hospital. According to deputies, the child did not suffer injuries that were life threatening.
Investigators are examining the details to find out why the driver lost control of the vehicle. According to officials, they do not think alcohol or drugs were a factor. The driver has been referred to as male, but his name, age, and city of residence have not yet been reported.
