Power Pole on Wood Drive in Cambria Falls onto SUV

CAMBRIA, CA (October 9, 2019) – A power pole in Cambria which fell onto an SUV last week had been reported leaning before it crashed. The October 1 incident occurred on Wood Drive.

Reports say people in the area reported that the power pole, which had a transformer attached, was continuing to lean, increasing in angle from the day before.

According to Emily Torlano, who is a captain with the Cambria Fire Department, a fire crew was sent out at roughly 2:51 p.m. According to Torlano, the pole was still upright but leaning when the crew arrived. Firefighters notified the utility, PG&E, reports say.

Roughly two hours later, the fire crew was sent back to the area as the pole had fallen, and smashed onto a vehicle—described as a Nissan Pathfinder—parked on the other side of the road.

Firefighters remained on site and waited for crews from the utility company to cut power to the downed lines. No one was reported injured in the incident.

The owner of the vehicle that was smashed has not been identified in reports, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence.

Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the circumstances that led to the utility pole falling.
