Calimesa Fatal Crash Shuts Down 10 Freeway Near County Line Road

Horrific Accident On Westbound I-10 Near San Bernardino County Line Kills One
CALIMESA, CA (April 19, 2025) — A fatal traffic collision shut down westbound Interstate 10 near County Line Road in Calimesa on Saturday morning, leading to major traffic delays and at least one confirmed death.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred around 9:19 a.m. when a silver SUV overturned and was subsequently struck by a white van. Witnesses traveling in the eastbound lanes reported seeing the dramatic collision unfold.
Cal Fire and American Medical Response Quickly Responded And Shutdown the Westbound 10 Freeway
Emergency crews from Cal Fire and American Medical Response (AMR), near Calimesa, quickly responded to the scene. All westbound lanes were closed for a period of time as first responders attended to victims and worked to clear the roadway. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office was requested shortly after 10 a.m., confirming the crash was fatal.
Towing services, including Pepes Tow and Edwins Tow, were called to remove the vehicles involved—identified as a 2010 silver Dodge Challenger sedan and a 1995 Ford E-250 van. One of the vehicles was impounded as part of the investigation.
Only 1 Lane Was Opened Before Noon Complicating Gridlock Traffic
By 11:01 a.m., officials reopened the #3 lane, but the #1 and #2 lanes remained closed well into the afternoon. The closure led to severe traffic backups, with some drivers reportedly attempting to reverse or drive against traffic in an effort to escape the gridlock.
CHP and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
