Man Struck and Killed After Vehicle is Disabled on 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park

BALDWIN PARK, CA (April 29, 2019) – Vinson Thomasi was struck and killed early Friday morning after exiting a disabled vehicle following a minor collision on the 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park. The April 26 accident occurred in the freeway’s eastbound lanes, near Francisquito Avenue and to the west of it.

The time was roughly 3:05 a.m.

Reports say Thomasi had been traveling as a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a crash that was described as minor. According to Officer E. Esparza, who is with the California Highway Patrol, Thomasi had been riding in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Chevrolet and another vehicle—described as a Volkswagen Passat—collided. The Chevrolet was in the fast lane, disabled after the incident.

According to Esparza, Thomasi got out of the Chevrolet and was standing outside. A vehicle—described as a Toyota Prius—approached the scene. According to officials the driver of the Prius—identified as a woman 18 years old and a resident of Ontario—did not see the victim who was standing near the Chevrolet. Esparza said the driver of the Prius could not slow or stop, and hit the victim. The Prius continued in motion, and hit a Toyota Camry. The driver of the Camry was identified as a man 66 years old and a resident of West Covina.

Respondents pronounced Thomasi deceased at the accident site. He was 25 years old and a resident of Norwalk.

The people who had been the drivers of the Chevrolet, the Passat, and the Camry were not injured, according to Esparza. The person who had been driving the Prius was injured, but the type of the injury has not been described. The names of the drivers have not been reported.
