Man Injured in Chain-reaction Collision on 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park; One Person Killed
BALDWIN PARK, CA (February 20, 2020) – Luis Uribe was injured early in the morning on Wednesday in a chain-reaction crash in Baldwin Park on the 10 Freeway. The February 19 incident, which occurred in the lanes that head west, killed one person.
Reports say a vehicle—described as Hyundai Santa Fe—had been traveling in the number 5 lane of the freeway, and was either moving slowly, or had stopped close to Francisquito Avenue.
A vehicle—described as a Nissan pickup truck—that was approaching the Hyundai struck it in a swideswipe motion. The Nissan struck the Hyundai on its left rear side, spun out, and ended up across the freeway’s middle lanes and pointed north.
Another vehicle—described as a Honda Accord—that was approaching, hit the Nissan pickup on its front right side.
Responders arrived and pronounced the person who had been driving the Nissan pickup deceased at the incident site. He was identified only as a resident of Montclair, 55 years old. His name has not been reported.
Reports say Uribe, who had been driving the Honda, had attempted to avoid the pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol. Responders transported Uribe to West Covina’s Queen of the Valley Hospital.
Uribe suffered injuries that include a back that is broken. His current condition is not known.
Authorities arrested the person who had been driving the Hyundai on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver was identified as Ana Guillen, a resident of West Covina, 57 years old. Responders transported her to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Baldwin Park.
Investigators are continuing their work to collect details, information, and evidence regarding the crash.
