Chain-reaction Crash in Baldwin Park Involving Twenty People Kills Young Boy
BALDWIN PARK, CA (May 11, 2020) – On Sunday afternoon, a 13-year-old boy was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Baldwin Park. The May 10 incident, which involved twenty people, occurred on the 10 Freeway.
The time was roughly 1:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say the driver of a tow truck–identified as Angel Jesus Aragon, 32 years of age–had been traveling east on the freeway, and in an area near Francisquito Avenue, he struck a car, described as a Toyota Corolla. One person was traveling in the Toyota.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Aragon tried to avoid the crash and while doing so, he struck the rear of a Nissan Murano. The Nissan had five people inside.
The impact sent the Nissan into the freeway’s center divider, and another vehicle–described as a Dodge Ram–struck the Nissan on its right side.
A young boy–identified as 13 years old–had been seated in the backseat on the right side of the Nissan. He died in the collision.
The Toyota was sent forward to strike the rear end of a Kia Nero. The Kia was shoved into the rear of a Honda Odyssey. The Honda Odyssey crashed into a Honda CRV. The Honda CRV crashed into another Toyota Corolla. The second Toyota Corolla crashed into a flatbed tow truck’s rear end.
A Lexus did not have enough time to stop before striking a Nissan Murano in its front end.
None of the people involved in the chain-reaction crash have been identified. Responders transported victims to USC Medical Center. The types of injuries ranged from major to minor. No one’s condition has been reported.
Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the sequence of crashes.
