Collision on I-5 in Grapevine Area Near Fort Tejon Kills One Person
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 18, 2020) – Early in the evening on Tuesday, a crash on I-5 in the Grapevine area near Fort Tejon killed one person. The June 16 incident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, close to where the Grapevine Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility is located.
The time was roughly 6:25 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle–described as a Lincoln–had made an abrupt move to the right and struck another vehicle–described as a Chevrolet pickup truck. The car hit a curb and a fence, and overturned. The person who had been driving the Lincoln was thrown from the car.
The driver of the car was killed. The person was identified only as 63 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The driver of the pickup truck has not been identified in reports. It is not known if the person was hurt in the crash.
Investigators are continuing their efforts to understand the circumstances of the crash by collecting details and information.
