Man Killed in Anaheim When Suspect Steals His Car and Hits Him
ANAHEIM, CA (September 23, 2020) – Jose DeJesus Berrelleza was killed early in the morning on Tuesday in Anaheim when a suspect stole his car and struck him with it. The September 22 incident occurred on Melinda Circle in the 100 block.
The time was roughly 6:20 a.m., according to Shane Carringer. Carringer is a sergeant with Anaheim Police.
Berrelleza is reported to have seen the suspect in the act of acting his car, which was parked near his home in the residential neighborhood. A person who witnessed the incident saw a man–later identified as Berrelleza–confront the suspected car thief.
The suspect hit Berrelleza with the car, according to the witness, and fled the scene.
Responders arrived and found Berrelleza died at the incident site. He was a resident of Anaheim, 33 years old.
Officers located the vehicle hours afterwards, roughly a mile from the scene of the theft and fatal hit-and-run. According to Carringer, police stopped the vehicle, which had a number of occupants inside of it.
None of the people inside the suspected stolen vehicle have been identified in reports, including name, age, gender, and city of residence. It is not yet known who is suspected of stealing the car and killing Berrelleza.
The investigation is continuing, and more details and information are being collected.
