Driver Smashes Equipment at Anaheim Construction Site; Worker Falls in Hole
ANAHEIM, CA (July 30, 2019) – A driver smashed into equipment at an Anaheim construction site on Monday night, which sent a worker to fall into a hole 20 feet deep. The July 29 incident occurred on Ball Road close to State College Boulevard.
The time was roughly 10:30 p.m., Anaheim Fire and Rescue said.
Reports say a person had been working on shoring tasks at the construction site at the time the crash occurred. A vehicle—described as a Toyota Corolla—smashed into the equipment. The worker fell into a hole 20 feet deep.
Responders arrived and worked to rescue the man who had landed in the bottom of the hole, according to Tim Sandifer. Sandifer is a battalion chief. Responders worked an hour to extricate the victim from the hole.
The victim suffered muscle and bone injuries, reports say, but the extent of his injuries, and his current condition, have not been reported. Responders transported him to a trauma center to receive treatment. The man’s identity—including his name, age, and city of residence—has not been reported.
According to reports, the person who had been driving the vehicle that hit the equipment tried to flee the site. The driver, however, was stopped by officers who arrived.
The driver was arrested by police for hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, and warrants that are outstanding, according to Luis Correa. Correa is a sergeant. The identity of the driver, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather facts, details, and information regarding the crash.
