Big Rig Crashes and Erupts in Flames on I-5 in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, CA (September 13, 2019) – Early in the morning on Friday, a big rig crashed and erupted in flames on I-5 in Anaheim. The September 13 incident occurred in the freeway’s northbound lanes, close to Lincoln Avenue.

The time was roughly 12:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports say the big rig went onto an embankment after the driver, for reasons that are not known, lost control of the vehicle. The truck smashed into a light pole and rolled over.

The big rig then landed on the freeway in traffic lanes, and erupted in flames.

Officers who arrived on scene saw that the driver was trapped in the truck’s cab, and rushed to rescue the victim, according to Janelle Bautista. Bautista is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.

Responders transported the driver to a hospital in the area. The types of injuries the person suffered, and the current condition, is not known. The identity of the driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

No details are known regarding the circumstances that led to the crash. Investigators are continuing to collect information and details to understand what factors contributed to the incident.
