Early Sunday morning, September 18, 2011, a 23-year-old man died when the Ferrari he was riding in crashed into a power pole on Pacific Coast Highway. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, Basil Max Price III was riding in the sports car that was being driven at twice the legal speed limit at the time of the crash, going 90 miles per hour in an area posted for 45 miles per hour.
Upon striking a power pole on PCH, the car split in half and fell 30 feet down a cliff and landed on the beach below. The car’s two pieces landed roughly 60 feet apart.
The accident happened just north of Sunset Boulevard around 1:27 a.m. Both people who had been in the car, including Price, who was a passenger, and 24-year-old Vladimir Skvortsov, the driver, were thrown from the vehicle. Price died at the scene. The driver, whose condition was reported as critical, was transported to UCLA medical center.
We know that words of condolences are pale comfort to the people who knew and loved these two men. We hold those who grieve in our thoughts, and hope they find the comfort and assistance they need.
