2 Women Killed in DUI Crash in Beverly Hills

The Beverly Hills Police Department has arrested a suspected DUI driver following a single-vehicle collision that left 2 passengers dead and 4 others injured in Beverly Hills early Friday morning, April 27th. According to Beverly Hills Police Department’s Lt. Renato Moreno, officers were summoned to respond to reports of a single-vehicle collision that occurred near the intersection of South Santa Monica Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard sometime around 1:30a.m. that’s when the driver of a BMW SUV, carrying 6 women all in their 20s, lost control, hopped the curb and struck a tree. First responders arrived to find the vehicle overturn and several passengers in the roadway which would suggest that they had been ejected from the vehicle during a roll-over. EMTs pronounced 1 of the women dead at the scene and 5 other women were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for minor and critical injuries according to medical staff. 1 of those treated succumbed to her injuries and died shortly after arriving.
Authorities took the driver into custody and she was booked for felony DUI. Investigators say that the impaired driving and that speeding may have factored into the fatal collision. The BMW SUV was what officers called a “smaller” version of a typical SUV and that it was not equipped to hold 6 occupants, which explains why some were ejected as they were possibly not wearing seatbelts. “This is a very unfortunate, very tragic accident,” said Lt. Renato Moreno. “As a police department, our hearts go out to the victims and their families, their extended family, and we hope there are education efforts of the ‘don’t drink and drive’ message that we often give.”
