San Diego, CA – Unusual weather causes a high number of accidents on San Diego highways Monday.
San Diego city experienced some of the greatest amount of accidents and worst driving conditions of the year when strong Pacific rain and snowstorms engulfed their highways. At one point the storms carpeted the roads with four inch-thick layer of ice, while strong winds blew away the sand and material used to help cars stick to the road.
California Highway Patrol responded to over 16 car accidents between the hours of 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. The result of car crashes varied, but all attributed to the weather. Many roads were closed to prevent accidents.Driving conditions were so severe, that even people driving vehicles equipped with 4×4 traction had to drive cautiously. Some accidents were fatal and involved everything from cars to big-rigs.
There was a wide range of accidents, some happened as a result of people driving too fast, losing control of their vehicles, then crashing. Some were caught in chain reaction car collision. Others crashed trying to avoid an accident.
By the end of the day 120 car collisions had been reported by authorities.
