The Missing Driver

Posted on August 13, 2012 | Written By: iadminlaw

Imagine finding an overturned vehicle that veered off the 5 Freeway and landed on railroad tracks with no driver inside. What happened to the driver? Did the driver survive the crash? Was the driver ejected from the vehicle? No one knows for sure.

A vehicle that careened off a freeway off-ramp and landed upside down on railroad tracks Sunday night had no one inside when emergency first-responders arrived on the scene, authorities said.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle veer right off the southbound I-5 off-ramp at Brookhurst Street in Anaheim about 8:44 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle landed upside down on railroad tracks below the off-ramp.

Authorities immediately contacted the Union Pacific railroad company to stop all trains traveling through the area. But when emergency first-responders arrived, no one was inside the vehicle, the MetroNet supervisor said.

“The driver fled the scene,” she said.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving erratically in the moments leading up to the crash, MetroNet said.

The vehicle, whose make and model wasn’t immediately available, was removed from the tracks and train service was resumed.

The California Highway Patrol will investigate the incident, MetroNet said.

Maybe the driver didn’t have insurance. Maybe the driver committed a crime and fled the scene after the crash. Maybe there was no driver inside the vehicle.
