Wrong-Way DUI Driver Injures 4 on 405 Fwy in Westwood

A suspected DUI driver was arrested after allegedly driving an SUV the wrong-way on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Westwood that resulted in a multi-vehicle crash that left 4 individuals injured early Monday morning, Jan. 15th. According to a California Highway Patrol news release, Abdul Aziz M. Alnuaim, 28-years old, of Beverly Hills, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The 4-vehicle collision occurred just after 12:30 a.m. on the northbound 405 Freeway just south of Wilshire Boulevard. Alnuaim was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe south in the northbound carpool lane of the 405 when he plowed head-on with 2000 Ford Explorer causing it to spin out of control and strike a 2008 Honda Civic that was in the northbound No. 1 lane. A 4th vehicle, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK250, was hit by debris from the Honda Civic. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the major crash and reported 5 people injured including Alnuaim. The driver of the Ford Explorer sustained minor injuries in the crash as did his 2 passengers. A 29-year old woman, who was driving the Honda Civic, suffered 2 broken legs and was transported to the hospital by ambulance and listed in serious condition. Alnuaim was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested, according to the CHP. Alcohol and/or drugs do appear to be a factor in this collision.
