Crash at Gas Station on South La Brea Kills 6, Injures 8 in Windsor Hills
WINDSOR HILLS, CA (August 5, 2022) – Early in the afternoon on Thursday in Windsor Hills, a crash at a gas station killed six people and injured eight others. The August 4 crash occurred where Slauson Avenue and South La Brea Avenue are located.
The time was roughly 1:40 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say video recorded the crash in which a vehicle–described as a Mercedes-Benz, dark in color–ran through a light that was red at a fast speed.
The Mercedes hit two vehicles that were at the intersection, and impact sent the vehicles into the gas station as they erupted in flames.
According to a witness, identified as Veronica Esquival in reports–a baby was thrown from the intersection to the middle of the gas station. The baby fell in front of her.
Though Good Samaritans tried to help the baby, the baby died, according to reports.
Responders pronounced six people deceased at the crash site, including a woman who was pregnant.
Reports say eight other people were injured in the crash. None of the victims have been identified.
According to Franco Pepi, who is a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol, six or seven vehicles were involved in the incident, with three of them fully burned.
Investigators described the driver of the Mercedes as 40 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
She was reported to have suffered injuries that were described as major.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
