Suspect Steals Truck and Gear of L.A. County Fire Captain Craig Heard from his Whittier Home
WHITTIER, CA (April 22, 2020) – Craig Heard, who is a Los Angeles County Fire Captain, had his truck stolen with gear inside while it was parked at his home in Whittier. Video from a surveillance camera captured the April 10 incident.
Reports say Heard’s truck–in which he had his firefighting gear and personal protective equipment, such as the pants, coat, helmet, gloves, and breathing mask that firefighters use–was parked outside his house. Also locked in the truck was Heard’s uniform badge.
In normal times, Heard would have brought his gear into his house, reports say, but because of the corona virus, and his contact with patients, he kept the gear in the locked truck to protect his family.
According to reports, the surveillance camera captured a vehicle–described as a green Silverado–dropping off the suspect at Heard’s residence. In under two minutes, according to reports, the suspect broke into Heard’s truck–described as a GMC Sierra–and drove it away.
Heard posted a plea on social media asking for the return of his personal protective equipment, his badge, and his uniform. Heard asks that the items be left at any fire station. He will have to cover some of the costs to replace the stolen items, he said.
