One Dead, 3 Hospitalized When Tesla Catches Fire After Crashing in West Hollywood
West Hollywood (April 4, 2023) – Early Monday morning, a fatal car accident occurred on Sunset Boulevard at Roxbury Road, near the border of Hollywood and West Hollywood. The accident involved a Tesla X that crashed into a median, a metal lamp post, and a tree, and subsequently burst into flames. The accident killed one person and injured three others, who were hospitalized.
John Haro, a witness to the incident, reported seeing two distressed women and hearing screaming and shouting as the flames grew and the car exploded. The female adult passenger died at the crash site, while two other women in the back seats were taken to the hospital.
Initially, police believed that the driver had fled the scene on foot. However, the driver was later found at a hospital in critical condition. According to LAPD Sgt. Bruce Borihanh, investigators identified the driver, who was transported to the hospital by a third party following the car.
The accident scene was closed off as investigators examined the evidence. The Tesla X was the only vehicle involved in the accident, according to the preliminary investigation. The car came to a stop in front of the Pink Taco restaurant on the northside of Sunset, and witnesses attempted to help the victims before the car was fully engulfed in flames.
