Student at Ventura High School—Dies From Injuries After Truck Hits Him
VENTURA, CA (March 16, 2020) – Austin Gambill, a student and athlete at Ventura High School, was fatally injured on Wednesday when a truck hit him on a sidewalk. Austin died from his injuries on Saturday.
Reports say on Wednesday, March 11, at roughly 3:30 p.m., Austin had been running on the sidewalk for training, and a work truck went onto the sidewalk and hit him, according to Ventura Police. Responders transported Austin to a hospital. He died on Saturday from the injuries he suffered. He was 16 years old.
Austin was a 10th grade student at Ventura High School, a runner on the cross county and track and field teams, and an Explorer Scout at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The person who had been driving the truck stayed at the incident site and cooperated with investigators. The identity of the person—including name, age, gender, and city of residence—has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on collecting details and information regarding the incident to understand why it happened, and what factors contributed to it.
