Small Plane Crashes and Burns in Valley Center; Pilot Dies, Young Passenger Injured
VALLEY CENTER, CA (June 1, 2020) – On Sunday night, a pilot died and a young passenger was seriously injured when a small plane crashed in a neighborhood in Valley Center. The May 31 incident occurred in the northeastern area of San Diego County, close to 30642 Palomar Vista Drive.
The time was roughly 6:00 p.m., the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Reports say the plane–described only as a single-engine aircraft–crashed and burned. The person who had been piloting the plane died in the crash. He was identified only as 57 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
According to Mike Davis, who is a sergeant, a passenger–identified only as a juvenile–was pulled from the plane by Good Samaritans. The young victim suffered injuries including burns, which were described as severe.
Responders transported the victim by airlift to Rady Children’s Hospital. The condition of the victim is not known.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are in the process of collecting information and details to understand the factors that contributed to the crash. At this time, no other information has been reported.
