Man Identified as Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Street Sweeper in Valencia

VALENCIA, CA (May 22, 2019) – Kori Powers was identified by officials as the victim who was struck and killed in Valencia early in the morning on Sunday. The May 20 accident occurred on Rye Canyon road close to Beale Court.

The time was shortly after midnight, Shirley Miller said.

According to Miller, who is a spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Powers had been riding a bicycle on Rye Canyon Road. A street sweeper hit Powers from behind.

Respondents arrived and took Powers to a hospital. She was pronounced deceased. Powers was 22 years old and a resident of Castaic.

The person who had been driving the street sweeper cooperated with the investigation. The identity of the driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

According to Miller, the clothing Powers had been wearing was dark in color, and the bike she was riding did not have lights. Investigators are continuing their exploration into the details of the incident.
