Suspect Fleeing San Diego Police Strikes Patrol Vehicles
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 18, 2021) – A suspect who was fleeing from police in a stolen pickup truck struck a number of cars and patrol vehicles in San Diego on Monday morning. The May 17 incident occurred in the area of Point Loma Heights.
The time was roughly 9:15 a.m., according to San Diego Police.
Reports say a detective saw a vehicle–described as a Ford F250 pickup truck–that was believed to have been stolen. At an apartment complex on West Point Loma Boulevard in the 4300 block, officers attempted to approach the pickup.
The driver spotted police, reports say, and rammed patrol vehicles while attempting to leave the apartment complex’s parking lot. According to Christian Sharp, who is a police lieutenant, the suspect driver kept ramming a number of patrol vehicles and other vehicles to be able to leave the area.
The suspect driver also struck cars that were parked in the neighborhood. The suspect drove in the lanes of opposing traffic, according to Sharp, and officers stopped pursuing.
In the area of Ingram Street and Quivira Street, officers attempted to stop the suspect driver. The suspect struck a sedan, and then smashed into a tree located on Quivira Way.
The suspect tried to run from the crash site, reports say. Police apprehended the suspect. His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
It is not known if anyone was hurt in the multiple vehicles that were struck. Investigators are working on the incident.
