Crash on 91 Freeway, in South Los Angeles, Kills Two; Possible Racing Involved
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 2, 2022) – Early in the morning on Saturday in South Los Angeles, a crash on the 91 Freeway killed two people. Street racing may have been involved in the April 30 crash, which occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway, near Acacia Avenue and to the west of it.
The time was roughly 12:40 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Authorities believe two vehicles–which have not been described–had been traveling in group of street racers, reports say.
While the vehicles were traveling on the freeway, one of the vehicles clipped the back end of the other vehicle. The impact sent the vehicle that was clipped to travel off the road surface and onto the shoulder.
The vehicle that went onto the dirt smashed into a pole beside the freeway.
The suspect driver left the crash site, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Responders arrived and found two people who had been traveling in the crashed car died at the scene.
Their identities, including names, ages, and cities of residence, have not been reported.
Investigators are searching for the suspect driver and the vehicle involved in the crash that left the scene.
If anyone has information about the collision, the person can call Officer Phillipson, who is with the South Los Angeles California Highway Patrol.
The number is 424-551-4000.
