Vehicle Swerves Off Santa Susana Pass Road in Simi Valley, Injuring Driver and Starting Brush Fire
SIMI VALLEY, CA (September 12, 2018) – A vehicle traveling on Santa Susana Pass Road on Sunday near Simi Valley swerved off the road and crashed. After the vehicle caught on fire, flames ignited a brush fire in the area.
The September 9 crash occurred around 5:00 p.m. Reports say that the vehicle, after leaving the road, hit a power pole and knocked it down along with high-voltage wires.
The driver, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, was able to climb out of the vehicle and up the hill.
A Los Angeles police patrol that had been passing by saw the man, the Fire Department said. The man had been burned on his hands, arms, and legs. Responders took the injured man to a hospital in the area.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire from the crash burned east of rocky Peak Road, and in between Highway 118 and Santa Susana Pass Road. Multiple agencies sent fire crews, and personnel were able to contain the flames, which had burned 8.64 acres, by 8:45 p.m.
No other people were injured in the accident.
