Man Killed in Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (May 5, 2021) – Michael Channing Peake was identified by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office as the person who was killed in a head-on crash on Monday morning at the Nojoqui Summit on Highway 101. Peake was a resident of Santa Barbara, 80 years old.
The May 3 incident occurred on Highway 101 on the northbound side of the freeway. The time was roughly 7:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say that according to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle–which had been heading south on the roadway–went over into the lane of opposing traffic. The vehicle went into the path of a vehicle that had been traveling north on the northbound side of the road.
The two vehicles collided head on. The person who had been driving the vehicle that was northbound in the northbound lane was identified as Peake.
The person driving the other vehicle has not been identified in reports. The vehicle has not been described.
