Man Killed in Crash at Cholame ‘Y’ Intersection on Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA (August 8, 2019) – Juan Silva Casares was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night at the Cholame “Y” intersection in San Luis Obispo County. The August 7 incident occurred on Highway 46 near where Highway 41 crosses it.
The time was roughly a little after 10:00 p.m.
Reports say a vehicle, described as a Honda Odyssey, had been traveling on Highway 46 heading east. Another vehicle, described as a Ford F-150, had also been traveling on Hgihway 46, heading west. The Honda made a left turn at the intersection, and it collided with the pickup truck.
Responders arrived and pronounced Casares deceased at the accident site. He was 48 years old and a resident of Creston. According to reports, Casares had been traveling as a passenger, but it is not clear what vehicle Casares had been traveling in.
Reports identify the Honda’s driver as Zi Tao Pan, a resident of Fresno. It is not known from reports if Pan was injured.
The person who had been driving the pickup truck was identified only as a man who is a resident of Creston. The person’s name and age have not been reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol, as many as eight people were hurt in the incident. Five people have been identified, reports say, and the victims suffered injuries described as minor to major.
The identities of the others involved in the incident have not been reported, and it is not known what types of injuries the people suffered, nor their current condition.
Investigators are continuing to work on the details of the incident.
