SDG&E Worker Seriously Injured in Collision with San Diego School Bus in Barrio Logan
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 5, 2021) – A man was seriously injured on Tuesday when the San Diego Gas & Electric vehicle he was driving collided with a San Diego Unified School District bus in the area of Barrio Logan. The May 4 incident occurred where South 28th Street and Boston Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 8:30 a.m., according to San Diego Police.
The SDG&E vehicle–described as a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV–struck the rear end of the school bus that had been stopped at a red light at the intersection, reports say. The SUV became lodged under the bus’s back end.
Responders arrived and worked to extricate the driver from the SDG&E vehicle. They transported him to UCSD Medical Center.
He suffered injuries that were described as serious, and his condition critical.
He was identified only as 53 years old. His name has not been reported.
The person who was driving the bus was not hurt in the crash, according to police. No students had been aboard when the incident occurred.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened.
