Man Crossing Road in San Diego Struck by Car
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 11, 2018) – A pedestrian who was crossing the street in San Diego on Saturday night was hit and injured by a car. The December 8 accident occurred where Cedar Street and Fifth Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 11:00 p.m.
According to Michael Tansey, who is a sergeant with the San Diego Police Department, officers arrived on scene and found the victim. The injured person was identified only as a man 65 years old. His name has not yet been reported.
Respondents transported the victim to a hospital. Reports say his injuries included a hip that was fractured.
According to investigators, the pedestrian had been walking in a crosswalk on a green light in the Cortez neighborhood, heading to the northwest corner from the intersection’s northeast corner. A vehicle—described as a Chevy Impala, gray in color—that was heading east on Cedar Street made a left turn on Fifth Avenue. The Chevy hit the pedestrian.
The person driving the vehicle was identified as a woman 43 years old. The driver’s name and city of residence have not yet been reported.
Tansey said that drugs or alcohol did not appear to play a role in the accident. Investigators are continuing their search into the details and information.
