Driver Suspected of DUI in 4-vehicle Injury Crash on Balboa Avenue in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 14, 2020) – On Monday afternoon, a driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs was arrested after a collision involving four vehicles in San Diego’s Clairemont neighborhood. The January 13 incident occurred in the area of Charger Boulevard and Balboa Avenue.
The time was roughly 12:54 p.m.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Nissan Frontier—head been traveling west on Balboa Avenue when it struck the median in the center of the road and went into the lane of opposing traffic. The Nissan struck another vehicle—described as a Jeep Patriot. The Jeep Patriot struck two other vehicles—described as a Jeep Cherokee and a Honda Civic.
Responders transported the driver of the Jeep Patriot to the hospital. The injuries she suffered included a broken leg. Her current condition is not known. She was identified only as 33 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
A passenger who had been traveling with her was also injured, but the types of injuries and the current condition of the person have not been reported. The person’s identity has also not been reported.
The person driving the Nissan Frontier was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. He was identified only as 59 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The drivers of the Jeep Cherokee and the Honda Civic have not been identified in reports. It is not known if passengers had been traveling in the vehicles.
Investigators are continuing their examination of the details of the incident.
