Driver Crashes into Car Parked on Governor Drive in San Diego’s University City
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 21, 2021) – On Tuesday night in San Diego, a driver smashed into a car that was parked on the street in the University City area. The April 20 incident, which occurred on Governor Drive, seriously injured the driver.
The time was roughly a little after 9:40 p.m., according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police.
Reports say a vehicle–described as a Plymouth Voyager van–had been heading west on Governor Drive. For reasons that are not known, the vehicle traveled to the right and smashed into a parked vehicle–described as a Nissan Maxima.
The crash happened close to Mercer Street, not far from Genesee Avenue.
Responders arrived and transported the driver to the hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as life threatening, and included a brain bleed and fluid in the abdomen.
The man was identified only as 56 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The owner of the parked vehicle that was struck has not been identified.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened. They are collecting information and details about the incident.
