Hit-and-run Driver Strikes and Kills Pedestrian on I-5 Near San Clemente
SAN CLEMENTE, CA (March 8, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a person who was walking on I-5 in the area of San Clemente. The March 7 accident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, close to Cristianitos Road.
The time was a bit before 6:40 a.m., Kevin Smale said. Smale is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying on the ground near the freeway. Respondents pronounced the victim deceased at the accident scene. The identity of the victim, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence have not been reported.
The type of vehicle that hit the pedestrian is not known, nor the circumstances that led to the accident. Investigators are examining the evidence and details of the incident.
Police ask that if anyone has information about the accident, he or she call the office of the California Highway Patrol in Oceanside. The number is 760-643-4300.
