Bakersfield Police Patrol Vehicle Collides with Civilian Vehicles

BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 19, 2021) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in Bakersfield, a police patrol vehicle carrying a K-9 officer was involved in a collision. The May 18 crash occurred at the California Avenue and Oak Street intersection.

The time was roughly 7:36 a.m., Bakersfield Police said.

The patrol vehicle had been traveling on Oak Street going south, and en route to help other officers who were pursuing a suspect of grand theft auto. Reports say the patrol vehicle had lights illuminated and siren activated when it approached the intersection of California Avenue.

According to police, the patrol vehicle stopped before going into the intersection. A vehicle–which had been traveling on California Avenue and heading east–collided with the patrol vehicle.

The patrol vehicle rolled over, and two other vehicles, which had been stopped at the Oak Street intersection, were struck.

None of the civilian vehicles has been described. According to reports, none of the people involved in the crash was injured, nor was the canine officer.

Investigators are working on collecting details regarding the collision.
