Pedestrian Killed and Driver Injured in Rollover Crash on Mission Bay Drive in San Diego, CA
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 5, 2022) – Late at night on Monday in San Diego, a pedestrian was struck and killed in the Mission Bay area, and a driver was injured in the rollover crash that followed. The April 4 crash occurred near 1900 West Mission Bay Drive, close to where Sea World Drive is located.
The time was roughly 10:30 p.m., John Buttle said. Buttle is a an officer with San Diego Police.
According to authorities, the pedestrian went into the street in the middle of the block with traffic oncoming. One vehicle, which has not been described, swerved to avoid striking the person.
A subsequent vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was killed in the crash. The person was identified only as a woman. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle hit the median in the center of the road and rolled over.
Responders transported the driver to a local hospital. The driver suffered injuries that were described as minor.
The driver was identified only as a girl, 17 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to understand the crash, and why it happened.
